On April 23rd of 1950 famous American photo journalist Steve McCurry was born. McCurry studied film history as well as film making while attending Penn State University. Later on he changed his mind and ended up majoring in theater arts. His passion for photography didn’t come about until he had been taking pictures for his school newspaper in college. McCurry traveled the world taking photos, and his biggest master piece was a piercing picture of a 12 year old Afghan girl. The photo ended up making it to the cover of National Geographic. I was motivated to choose Steve McCurry because of his beautiful photography of real life people and places. He’s not one of those fashion photographers that uses super skinny girls with outrageous makeup or one who takes pictures of common world landscapes. His photos capture pictures of ordinary people all around the world, and not as well known beautiful striking landscapes. All of his photographs are vivid and bursting with natural color which is also why I chose him.
